No Belize Vacation is complete without a view of some of our many feathered friends, whether you’re an experienced “twitcher” or a beginner. And duPlooy’s Jungle Lodge Resort is the perfect place to learn to be a birder.

Enroll in our 6-day Introduction to Birding course and you will find yourself wanting to learn more. We will provide you with a special bag containing a Belize Bird Book, a checklist of the over 300 species seen at or around duPlooy’s, the course manual and a pair of binoculars

This course takes you through all of the “how to’s” of Birding, including identification of plants that different birds feed on. Classroom time is broken up with bird walks around the area and field trips to other areas. Start your life list now by registering for this course.

This introduction to Birding course requires a minimum of 4 persons and is taught by instructors who have spent many years researching bird activity at our own Belize Botanic Garden and they will surely inspire you to want to learn more about this fascinating "hobby".

Introduction to Birding - 5 Night / 6 Day Itinerary

(B=Breakfast included; L=Lunch included; D=Dinner included)

Day 1 – Transfer from Belize City to duPlooy’s with a stop at the Belize Zoo on the way if time permits.  After check-in, meet your instructors for a short orientation and welcome drink. D

Day 2 – Spend the morning in the classroom, learning how to identify birds and the plants on which they feed.  Spend the afternoon birding on the resort. See Birding at duPlooy's. BLD

Meet again after dinner to see what birds and other creatures roam about in the night. 

Day 3 – Meet your guide at 6am for coffee and then walk around identifying more birds and plants.  After lunch, spend time in the classroom preparing for tomorrow.  Warning!!  You may have a little homework. BLD

Evening birding on your own around the resort.

Day 4 – Leave at 6am for El Pilar Maya site to put what you have learned in action.
Eat lunch in San Ignacio Town before spending the afternoon at Cahal Pech another Maya site, located on a hill overlooking the town. BLD

Day 5 – Wrap up your class work in the morning after an early morning walk and spend the afternoon on your own, birding, canoeing, tubing or taking a short horseback ride. BLD

Day 6 – Head for your next destination or back home.
