Today I came  to work at the du Plooy’s office bright and early.  As I grogily walked up the hill  I came upon a White -Tailed Deer feeding right outside the  office. I know this is a common sighting in some parts of the U.S. but here it is a rare and splendid sight. This was more then the morning cup of coffee I was so looking forward to could do to wake me up.

I suddenly became alert to the world around me.  As I approached the office, I looked up and saw a splendid fusion of pinks, oranges, and yellows.  In bloom right now are a Pink Cassia, Flambouyant, and a Golden Shower, their colours come together so wonderfully.  I walked through the office and out front to collect the previous nights sales, here in the jungle we all have our trials with Leaf Cutter Ants; however I must remark on their beautiful trail this morning of yellow from the Golden Shower Tree.   No sooner did I look over head into the  Pink Cassia tree and there was a  Rose Throated Becard couple building their nest.   As alway I was amazed of the beautiful world surrounding me.   To think I had not even turned on my computer!

Traditional Knowledge Workshop

April 9th, 2007

mayan-hutRooms at duPlooy’s now include continental breakfast, self-guided tour of Belize Botanic Gardens, **use of innertubes and canoes around the property. **Only if you bring ‘em back yourself. If you’re hanging around duPlooy’s for the day you might want to take a picnic lunch to the beach or garden and just relax a little.

If you have a yen to try your hand at tortilla or tamale making, basket weaving, or other local
food or craft, ask about Belize Botanic Garden’s Traditional Knowledge workshop. This has to be scheduled a day ahead, but it’s lots of fun and very informative. A Traditional Knowledge Workshop can be included as a half day activity on packages. It includes a guided Healer’s Walk in the gardens, along with an activity such as one of those listed above. The activity takes place in the Maya house in the garden and a typical Mayan lunch is served there.
